A Turkish Breakfast, Explained

By Ben Rosenblum

Welcome back to my series of articles about meals around the world. Today we are going to be talking about Turkish breakfast also known as kahvaltı, meaning “before coffee” in Turkish. As you can see below Khavalti is  very different from western breakfasts featuring foods such as Simit. Simit is a circular bread with poppy seeds and is good in coffee.

A Burek is a pastry with filling such as meats and cheeses and much more.

A typical breakfast will also contain Çılbır, a dish of poached eggs and yogurt which I have had and it is very good.

It would not be a proper breakfast without Turkish tea, a valued tradition among Turkish people. A Turkish breakfast is a great cultural icon and you should try some if you ever get the option.
